Led by Soul Sanctuary Gospel Choir, this contemporary take on sung evensong brings together scripture, prayer and rich vocal harmony in a service that feels both deeply rooted in tradition and wonderfully alive. With our Musical Director Pete Yarde Martin leading the band and Chris Bullock directing the choir, Gospel Evensong offers an hour of stillness, celebration and soulful sound in the heart of Trafalgar Square. For today's Throwback Thursday, we’re looking back For today's Throwback Thursday, we’re looking back to March 26th, when we had the privilege of taking part in a service of celebration marking the 175th anniversary of HMP Wandsworth. Led by the Bishop and the Dean of the Southwark Diocese, it was a moving afternoon that brought together the prison governor and staff, written contributions from prisoners, Change for Good, the Prison Outreach Network, St Mary Magdalene Wandsworth, and the brilliant music team at Southwark Cathedral. Music has a unique power to bring people together, and it was an honor to share our voices in community for such a significant milestone.

St. Augustine once said, “He who sings, prays twic St. Augustine once said, “He who sings, prays twice.” This is the heart of Gospel Evensong. On Sunday 24th May, join Soul Sanctuary Gospel Choir at St Martin-in-the-Fields as we bring contemporary gospel to the Anglican tradition. We’ll be using special gospel settings for the psalms and the beautiful canticles of Mary and Simeon, the Magnificat and the Nunc Dimittis, as well as the traditional prayers and responses.
