Soul at Saint James

Our flagship event is a bespoke musicial experience, produced in partnership with St James’s Piccadilly. It’s a space where everyone is welcome, regardless of background or belief, to immerse themselves in a vibrant mix of contemporary gospel, R&B, soul, and spoken word, all inspired by life’s core values: love, peace, community, and care.

Gospel Evensong at St Martin-in-the-Fields

“He who sings, prays twice,” as Augustine of Hippo famously said. In that same spirit of prayer through music, Gospel Evensong continues to grow as a living tradition at St Martin-in-the-Fields, with four services offered each year.

Gospel Evensong at St Martin-in-the-Fields was created in collaboration with our endlessly creative hosts, bringing contemporary gospel music into the rich tradition of Anglican Evensong. At the heart of each service, we sing the psalms using our distinctive “gospel psalm tones,” while the beautiful prayers of Mary and Simeon – the “Magnificat” and the “Nunc Dimittis” – along with traditional responses, are given fresh, vibrant settings by our band leader, Peter Yarde Martin. Seasonal music and other selections further enrich the service, all accompanied by the three-piece version of our regular band.
