Join our singing workshop at St James's Church, Piccadilly in central London as part of our mission to bring gospel music to new audiences and worship settings. The workshop will be followed by a Eucharist service at 6pm - The Gospel Music Spirit - which will be held outside if the weather is fine. The workshop and service are part of St James's "Sundays at Six" programme.
The workshop will be fun, unpressurised, and open to everyone - regardless of your singing ability or background. Gospel music enables Christians to worship a God of love and peace, however we hope that anyone, whatever their religious background, will feel comfortable attending the workshop. During the hour-long workshop we will learn a gospel song together, and then sing it with Soul Sanctuary Gospel Choir during the following church service which starts at 6pm and lasts an hour.
We particularly welcome church groups especially those who are thinking of exploring gospel music at your own church. We are keen to support you, and following the workshop we can provide resources that will allow you to sing the song that we learn together at your own church. The 'toolkit' of resources will include:
- a backing track (if you do not have musicians at your church)
- practice audio files (so that you can sing in parts)
- lyric sheets
- and a chord chart and sheet music for a keyboard player.
Although this workshop is aimed at adults, if you feel that your teenage daughter or son would genuinely enjoy taking part, and you know that they would feel comfortable in a group of adults, then they would be most welcome. However, any child under the age of 16 years must be accompanied by an adult.
Please note that we may film part of the workshop for publicity purposes. If for any reason you do not wish to be filmed, please tell us on your arrival.
We are asking you to book in advance so that we know how many people to expect, and enable us to give you a proper welcome including a name badge. If after booking a place, you know that you are no longer able to attend, we would appreciate a cancellation.
Please arrive ready to start the workshop at 4.30pm (don't be late!) so that we can enjoy every one of those 60 minutes of singing together!
