Recording a 'Good Friday' broadcast for BBC Radio 2

In the studio at Maida Vale

On Monday 21st March 2016, Soul Sanctuary went to Maida Vale Studios to record several songs for the BBC, as part of a special two-hour programme for BBC Radio 2 this Easter.

Tune into Radio 2 this evening - Good Friday, 25th March 2016 - to hear the broadcast in full from 8pm. Recorded in front of a live studio audience and presented by Diane Louise Jordan, the programme will feature music from Soul Sanctuary, plus jazz/gospel songs from our guest vocalists (Tracey Campbell, Hermione Thomas, Lawrence Rowe and Lewis Daniel).

Choir members Georgia Rodger and Peter Yarde Martin worked with British jazz legend Richie Cottle to deliver two spine-tingling solos. Georgia sang Richie's original piece 'At the Foot of the Cross', which was composed especially for the occasion, and Pete's rendition of 'Beautiful City' from Godspell held the room spellbound.

We were humbled and honoured to sing alongside Irish singing group The Priests, the BBC Young Choristers of the Year, and Scottish singer-songwriter Steph MacLeod.

And the readings of poems delivered by Susan Jamison were moving and incredible.

Thank you to the BBC for having us!

"The sheer musicality and energy which Soul Sanctuary has brought to BBC programmes has been amazing. They love what they do and they do it brilliantly. Their range of musical expression goes well beyond what you might expect from a gospel choir, and that’s why I so enjoy working with them."
Philip Billson, Series Producer, Radio: BBC Religion and Ethics
